Freight Communication outlined by the EC at EIM lunch

Today 16.10.2007, EIM's Director Generals met with an EC delegation led by E. Grillo-Pasquarelli, Head of Directorate E for Inland Transport, M. Castelletti, Head of Unit for Rail Transport and Interoperability and M. Sagredo from Commissioner J. Barrot's cabinet. The topics for the lunch meeting were the forthcoming EC communication on Freight Oriented Networks, charging in terms of the recast of the first railway package, Multi-Annual Contracts and the European Rail Technical Strategy.  Read More...
Making European railways safe and interoperable

EIM was firstly established with the main objective to influence the regulatory framework that the European Commission (EC) was then developing. However, the establishment of the European Railway Agency (ERA) as part of the Second Railway Package made it a necessity for the independent Infrastructure Managers to participate in the drafting of Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSIs) and safety specifications based on the Safety Directive (2004/49 EC). Read More...

Towards an EU policy facilitating cross-acceptance of rolling stock

The European Commission (EC) sees cross-acceptance of rolling stock, in particular traction units and locomotives, as a key element in making the European railways interoperable. The underlying arguments are that cross-accepted rolling stock makes cross-border operations possible and that it enables railway undertakings to start operations in other Member States. Read More...

Environmental credentials in the railways

Much has been said in the last year about new environmentally friendly technologies like fuel cells and bio fuels. No one seems quite sure where we are heading with our efforts to improve the environment and at what rate improvements are happening. The European Rail Infrastructure Managers (EIM) has taken a look at some of the developments now in place within its membership and there is some very good news on the environmental front.
