Internalisation of external costs

Work is progressing on the review of the Eurovignette directive, which should culminate in a legislative proposal from the European Commission in June of this year. The proposal will refer to “smart green charging” to clarify that its scope is wider and covers all modes of transport.

EIM sees the review of the Eurovignette directive as an opportunity to create a level playing field in the transport market particularly in terms of the international and long distance freight business.  Read More...

Environmental challenges and opportunities

2008 is an important year for the development of the European transport sector. On 23 January the European Commission (EC) released its new climate change package, with a proposed average 10% cut in CO2 emissions levels for the transport sector from 2005 until 2020. In June, the EC will present its fiercely debated and long awaited proposals for internalisation of external costs in its “Transport Greening Package”, which includes a proposal for rail noise abatement measures.  Read More...

TSI Infrastructure CR and TSI Energy CR: State of the art

Since its establishment in 2005, the European Railway Agency (ERA) has been mandated by the European Commission to draft recommendations for Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI). The recommendations for the TSIs Infrastructure for conventional rail and Energy for conventional rail are the first ones to be produced by the European Railway Agency (ERA).  Read More...
