PLK awarded for activities in terms of safety

PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. was awarded for actions taken in order to increase safety on roads within the European Road Safety Charter (ERSCharter). It also means a recognition of the social campaign Safe level-crossing – “Stop and live!".
The European award took into account PLK’s comprehensive measures for increasing safety at rail-road crossings in Poland. PLK has been working on the social campaign Safe Level-Crossing - "Stop and live!" for the past ten years. The aim of this undertaking has been to reduce the number of accidents on more than 13 000 level-crossings in the country.
- This recognition shows how important the consequence in actions for safety is, which is of high priority for PLK. Decrease in accidents at level-crossings, has been achieved among other things thanks to PLK’s employees involvement, who organise actions regarding The Safe Level-Crossing - "Stop and live" which are aimed at groups of different age and profession - says Andrzej Pawlowski, Vice-President of PLK’s Management Board.
The 2014 was the safest year on railway. Number of incidents and accidents on rail-road level-crossings in Poland has been decreasing year by year. In 2014, 201 incidents were recorded (31 fewer than in 2013). According to statistics, almost 99% of incidents and accidents on level-crossings is caused by inattention or recklessness of drivers disregarding the signs.
The social campaign of PLK Safe Level-Crossing - "Stop and live!" is one of the largest actions dedicated to safety in Europe.
The European Road Safety Charter is the largest civil platform for road safety, led by the European Commission.
