Technical work
EIM is recognised as a representative body for the railways by the European
Union.
EIM thereby proposes experts for different working groups established
by the European Railway Agency (ERA) in order to assist the ERA in the preparation and management of Technical Specifications for Interoperability,
Specifications for ERTMS and the deliverables described in the Safety Directive
(2004/49 EU).
The experts proposed by EIM and nominated by the ERA represent EIM and
therefore have to work on the basis of mandate defined by EIM and its members.
EIM and its members consider the work for the ERA important for the
future of the railways. The work is essential in the creation of an open compet-
itive railway industry in the European Union.
Monitoring, identifying and influencing the work of the ERA is a main objective of EIM and has a high priority.
